It's just too cruel ...

The wound that they cut out of Adam's bottom extends so far that it's impossible to dress completely without also covering his anus, except for when he was asleep and they could push and pull whatever they wanted however they wanted. So now when Adam goes to the toilet he soils the inside of the dressing, which subsequently either falls out when he wipes his bottom, or has to be removed anyway.

Adam is on IV antibiotics, a near certain side-effect of which is … diarrhoea.

Adam has now been to the toilet multiple times since his dressing was changed by the nurse at home yesterday. And every time he's had to go through the trauma of having the dressing completely removed, and his gaping wound cleaned, packed, and dressed again.

And of course every time all this happens the risk of infection grows.

It's just too cruel ...

  1. Sending much love and positive vibes to Adam and those who look after him. Cuddles and smiles. NB is a cruel wicked disease that you wouldn't wish upon the worst of people, let alone the beautiful children that have to suffer. I don't want to interfere, but have you spoken to the Marsden? I recall that Shushma and A.K. always spoke words of wisdom. Jackie x

  2. You are the most extraordinary father & family. I check for your comments every day and never cease to be amazed and humbled at the way in which you all cope, not least of course the way Adam deals with everything.

As ever, hoping and believing that the news WILL get better.

  4. It's terrible what NB and other childhood cancers do to innocent children like Adam. On top of the cancer itself, the harsh results of the drugs cause secondary health problems like this etc etc. I will definitely keep you in my prayers.

  5. Oh that is absolutely heartbreaking. The poor little boy. I have a son nearly the same age as Adam. Thinking of you.
